Training Institutions

In 1998 The Woolsafe Organisation launched an accreditation scheme for professional carpet cleaning companies, called the Woolsafe Certified Operators program, to counter unqualified cleaners who give the carpet cleaning industry a bad name.

Independent carpet cleaning companies, franchisees and in-house carpet cleaning contractors can become Woolsafe Certified Operators.

They must be fully trained in all carpet cleaning techniques, have been in business continuously for a period of at least 5 years and be a member of a recognised professional or trade association related to the cleaning industry. They must attend a Woolsafe training course, pass the exit exam and meet other requirements relating to their business and professional associations. Certified Operators undertake to use Woolsafe-approved products whenever they clean or maintain wool or wool-rich carpeting.

The Woolsafe Certified Operators program:

  • trains, examines and accredits leading carpet cleaning companies

  • requires the use of Woolsafe-approved products, thereby ensuring the highest standards in wool carpet and upholstery cleaning and maintenance

The Woolsafe Certified Operator program is currently operational in Great Britain, Ireland, The United States of America and Australia.

Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC)

Established in 1972, the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) serves as an independent, non-profit certification body which sets and promotes high standards and ethics and works to advance communication and technical proficiency. The organisation approves instructors and schools through which service professionals in the cleaning and restoration industry can receive training and become certified.

Through the development of certification course outlines and comprehensive examinations, the IICRC has led the way in establishing procedural guidelines for cleaning, restoration and inspection work. The standards have been formalised with the issuance of the Institute's three procedural reference guides: SOO1 Carpet Cleaning Standard, S500 Water Damage Restoration Standard and Reference Guide for Inspection of Textile Floor Coverings.

The IICRC is the world's largest unification of carpet and upholstery professionals with over 16,000 currently certified registrants. IICRC is universally recognised as the objective certification and standard-setting body for the cleaning, restoration and inspection industry. The Board of Directors is made up of the eighteen regional, national and international trade associations.

Interactive Training International (ITI)

With more than 25 years experience in the cleaning and restoration industry, ITI was conceived to offer solutions to the traditional problems technicians encounter on the job and provide a practical training experience as an alternative to learning from expensive workplace mistakes.

Their action-based training courses are developed by long-time industry professionals who have experienced the limitations of theoretical training courses first hand, and discovered the need for a comprehensive accreditation program to build higher levels of consumer confidence.

They're committed to lifting the standards of the cleaning and restoration industry through a continued investment in bringing world-class practical training facilities and teaching concepts to Australian operators.

With an innovative approach not only means that we can customise our syllabus to meet the specific needs of each company, but also gives us the flexibility to embrace new technologies and keep pace with industry developments.
